Collectors Edition vs. Retail Edition
It was mentioned so I thought I'd jump on it.
Who is getting what and why?
I'm getting Collectors Edition because I'm interested (always have been in any game) in the extra *goodies*. I am really getting it for the headset and the godly auras though. Those are the two biggest things that have drawn me to jump ship (on the retail version at least) and do something I normally don't get the chance to do!

I need something for my coffee table.
The Guild Wars artbook and the Half-Life 2 artbook are going to serve as my Art Deco texts.

I've seen some weird price discretions between the two on different web sites and I'm not sure which one is correct. How much does the collector's edition cost?

according to the official site, 79.99 (US).
I'm personally paying 90 even for it...since Im in Canada, lowsey Exchange rate. Which, incidentally comes out to 73.8504 American...odd.
Oh, and Im getting it for the Soundtrack, big fan of Jeremy Soule, and the artbook mostly.

After you already pre-order the regular edition, is there a way to change your package type?
I wanted the collectors edition but I pre-ordered the regular retail...

Depends where you pre-ordered from. I went through EB games and had originally pre-ordered the normal version of the game. But they're really nice about it, and a simple phonecall later I was upgraded to the collectors edition.
Best way to find out really is just call the store you pre-ordered through.

Collectors edition all the way
I originally ordered through CompUSA, they didn't ask which one I wanted and I didn't know there was a choice. After reading about the in game items I decided to order through EB Games (I really want that bow) and they asked if I wanted the collectors edition. Since it was only $20 more I said sure, I had no idea what made it a collector’s edition until I got home and looked it up! Man am I glad I upgraded, mostly because of the divine aura! Now my husband (who ordered from CompUSA) is also going to get the collectors edition, which I don't think will be a problem since they never asked which one he wanted and only collected the deposit.

Yup, I'm getting the collectors edition. I've been putting money in every month on my preorder so I've been able to afford it. I'm looking forward to getting all the extra stuff that comes with it. (Sad thing is, I wont be able to get it on the day it comes out because I made it to the state championships in speech and debate and though it was a tough battle, I decided to go to the tournament)

All you have to do, as far as I know, is go into the store take your money off your preorder (not sure if they give you the $5 you put down for preorder) and go somewhere else where they are charging the *said* price of $79.99. I think thats exactly what I'm going to do since I preordered with GameStop as well...

I'm pretty sure you get to keep the preorder stuff. Heck, I've preordered stuff just for the "freebie". Five dollars for a video game t-shirt that they're never gonna sell at a standard sell-out retailer? Heck ya!

I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition because I want some of the extras (Aura, Artbook, Soundtrack) and becaus I feel Arenanet deserves the little bit of extra money. They are a new company who designed a great "first game" and I try my best to support new companies that make good games. Also, I think they deserve a pat on the back for trying something so ambitious (streaming content, no P2P, PvP-focused) when today, most game makers are far too stagnant.

I called Gamestop, as long as you have the recipt and your license you can go down and move your reservation onto the collectors edition. Yay!

Are you sure they werent talking about, if you pre-ordered, the day they ship the game when its fully released, that you can't change it ? because that would make sense.

i dont want it to be too annoying and i dont want all these people with annoying auras around them
so i hope it isnst lie really bright or like that neon glow thing
but i heard it is a unnequipable item so only time will tell
